Beginning a new chapter

Standard

It’s been wickedly cold this last two weeks, by Texas standards that is. I have been huddled into my chair writing, and reading. I long to be outside in my gardens watching seeds sprout and bulb pop. The rain has started, predictions of rain for ten days. This is great as we always need moisture in Texas, have been in drought for years. When the sun returns there will be plenty of new blessings to see in my flower beds. The wildflowers will be running rampant across fields and along highways soon and will be chasing them with my camera.

I start a couple of of online classes here today and am looking forward to the distraction of having things to do. Photo 101 and Blogging 101, maybe I will finally figure out how to do this properly. I am one of those people who never read directions, just jump right into the middle and sink or swim. I usually need a life jacket to get me through it.

Well I’m headed off to the class, please wish me luck. I wish you a beautiful day full of sunshine and blessings. I am enclosing sunshine for those of you who may not have any today.day6

Kissing Flowers

Standard

10325556_662345080467616_8435164254518483201_n

Butterflies kissing flowers, whispering to the daisy.
Thanking them for sweet nectar while savoring their honey.
Fluttering on gossamer wings, they flit from bud to blossom.
Dancing on the petals, they pollinate the flowers.
Wings outstretched they’re carried on the breeze.
All colors of the rainbow, they settle in the fields.
They sip the dew from buttercups and hide amid the sage.
The sun comes up and dries their wings, they begin to flitter.
The pageantry of the butterflies fills the air like glitter.

Naked in the Field

Standard

Victoria Feathers

spring

You stand naked in the field all winter long
Shaking in the cold, swaying with the wind
Your old bones creaking and snapping
Occasionally offered a fluffy white robe to
cover yourself

The season is changing, Spring is moving in
Put on your chartreuse sequins, cover your nudity
Soak up the sun and warm your frozen limbs
Spread your arms to welcome back the nesting birds,
the lovers that kneel beneath you in secrecy
Stand alone no longer exposed to the countryside

Emotions Come, I Don’t Know Why

Standard

Life barrels over mountains and into deep ravines.
Euphoric highs and damning lows, occasional
stalls on flat plains as it catches its wind.

I become complacent, forget to hold my breath,
and there it goes again.

Up and down as notes on a scale.
Tears and laughter, acceptance and fears, wrapped
up tight or floating buoyant over rainbows.

I just hang on tight and enjoy the journey,
the soaring and the dips as I  wait to catch
my breath.

Carrying Balloons

Standard

I’ve passed through life carrying
balloons assigned to me at birth.
Multiple colors, shapes and sizes
always mindful of their care.

I preferred the pale pink of youth.
Fresh, innocent, I smiled broadly
as I held them high, when a young adult
I released them to the sky.

Grasping red balloons, much
harder to retain, these passionate
balloons pulled me in directions
where I shall not go again.

Thankful to trade them for the
green of adulthood, I released the red.
Raising family, financial stability, I busily
collected more and more balloons to
float above my head.

Vibrant blue balloons faded through the years,
calm, relaxed floated quietly above me.
Slipping through my fingers and flew away
one by one….

Forced now to carry black balloons in
stiff jointed hands.
These balloons don’t float away and
tangle in the trees.

These are fragile balloons of thin material.
I wrap the strings around my wrist
trying to hold on, and yet they
pop, pop, pop.

Frantic Wind

Standard

Frantic wind, running in circles
Screeching warnings and throwing
anything that stands in your way

What’s bothering you?

Yesterday you were warm and gentle,
kissing cheeks and shaking hands with
flowers

What’s happened to you?

Is it because we’ve closed our windows
and shut you out with the rain?

Pull yourself together, play nice
with the rain…

The weather has gone from eighty-two days ago to a high of forty today. Blustery winds could blow you away. My dog is terrified of the noises the wind makes inside the house. I spent yesterday laying with her on the floor so she could relax. She tends to sit on the floor beside my chair at attention, much like the guards before the palace. She cannot relax, eat, or lay down. I even had to add an old quilt to the vacant side of my bed for her so that both of us could get some sleep. I hate animals in my bed so this is the ultimate sacrifice of love for her. She is a rescue dog and I believe her to have been sorely mistreated. Four years later she is still terrified of the sound of the AC and heat when it is on and will not enter a room. Forget using a broom around her. Poor baby……

On a good note the baby geese are growing quickly, hard to believe they were hatched on V-Day. I love to watch them with their parents, military like training tactics. A hawk circled them as they swam and foraged for food. The parents, ever vigilant, honked warnings to the hawk nonstop until he finally retreated. I found I was holding my breath at times as he circled lower.

I hope the cold, high winds and near freezing temps at night will not kill my emerging plants. I am so anxious to see the flowers bloom. I would be surprised if this crazy wind does not pluck them from the ground and hurl them into the pond.

I smelled a beautiful scent in the air on Saturday, grabbed my camera and went to find it. White flowering trees along a path into the neighbors field. I snapped a few pic’s that do not do the trees justice. The smell was heavenly though I could not identify the trees.

Well friends have a blessed day and stay safe and warm. Spring will be here soon and all that comes with it….sun still sun still2

Busy, busy, busy

Standard

I have been negligent here keeping track of blessings. The weather has been so grand that I spend most of my time in the yard making new gardens and putting in a small pond. The pond is turning out to be more complicated than I had imagined, a leak. I’m sure I stepped on a sharp stone and punctured the lining.

On a happier note the Geese brought the babies down for their first swim on Valentines Day. I must note this was the nicest V Day gift I have ever received. They grow so fast, I am amazed how fast they can waddle to keep up with the parents. Yesterday they were foraging along the bank and a hawk kept circling, I was terrified for them.

Small green shoots are popping up everywhere. I have planted so much I can’t remember what is what. I kept pulling this weed that was invading the bank of my dry creek bed. I wondered why my Rock Cress hadn’t emerged yet. I researched it and believe that the pictures on the net look like the plants I have been pulling…… Sometimes I amaze myself. I will try to refrain from weeding until I am certain what I am doing, if I don’t forget. I am getting so dingy.

The new border lilies have little pink buds on them. I am excited to see them open, maybe for Easter. The new rose bushes are bursting in new leaves. I’m like an expectant mother waiting for the birth, visiting the nursery over and over, imagining the baby here.

God is grand. babies

Perfect Rainy Day

Standard

Umbrella frayed, raindrops dripping through
Clouds riddled with holes, sunlight streaming rays
A grand and perfect rainy day

Raindrops collecting into

puddles
Small
bodies of water floating leaf boats
A child’s imagination sprouts

Small seeds germinate, send up shoots
Reach for the sunlight, sip raindrops
The farmer smiles at his emerging crops

I admire my flowers dancing in the rain
Smell the showered air and damp earth
Whisper a thank you for Earths  rebirth
