Butterflies kissing flowers, whispering to the daisy.
Thanking them for sweet nectar while savoring their honey.
Fluttering on gossamer wings, they flit from bud to blossom.
Dancing on the petals, they pollinate the flowers.
Wings outstretched they’re carried on the breeze.
All colors of the rainbow, they settle in the fields.
They sip the dew from buttercups and hide amid the sage.
The sun comes up and dries their wings, they begin to flitter.
The pageantry of the butterflies fills the air like glitter.

The cheerful gardener

Standard

The weather here in Central Texas has been gorgeous, low 80’s. I have a serious case of Spring fever so I have been spending time preparing new flower beds, long ten-hour days of very hard work. Aching back, swollen hands and ankles, smelling of manure, not a pretty sight but so very rewarding.

Yesterday the temp dropped into the mid 50’s which made the work a bit more pleasant. I planted roses and prepared my rock garden to receive its pond and waterfall. It amazes me that such hard work, sweat running into your eyes and the stench of manure can be so rewarding. Who would have thought it?

I now have two sets of blue birds that hang out in the yard and use the communal bird bath. I get so much pleasure from watching the bright blue flashes flit from tree to tree. I can’t get the finches to eat their food so I opened it and mixed it with the wild bird seed. I will be happy if the cow birds leave, there are hundreds of them that fly in and empty the feeder in minutes and then fly off to help the steer and horses clean up their food. Greedy little things.

My bulbs are popping up now: mini iris, border lilies, surprises. I’ve been rearranging rocks in my dry creek bed again hoping to get it right. The poor rocks are probably dizzy from my rearrangements.

Well go out there and make it a wonderful day, I intend to.
