The love of a grand mother

Standard

It was such a gloriously beautiful day today, sunny and 70. A great day to take my nine year old grand daughter out for photography practice. We are both learning and have competitions. A shared hobby that strengthens the bond we have with one another. I try to be the grand mother I never had, cooking, baking, sewing, crafting, and fun filled sleepovers. My girls love the sleepover where they give me makeovers with new hairdo and makeup. I love the three pigtail and blue eye shadow look best. These are followed up with beauty/talent contests. Popcorn in bed with a movie. Needless to say when they go home I am totally exhausted, and thoroughly in love.

I loved my three children completely but the love I have for my three grand daughters is special. I believe it is because I now have the time to appreciate them and see the world through their eyes. As a single mother raising children was a job. Grand mothering is a pleasure as I am not pressured by the responsibilities of working, mothering, household and lawn responsibilities, I am amazed that I can spend hours playing make believe games. I sincerely hope they remember these times we share and it impacts them as parents. I would like to think I have left my mark on the world by the love I have invested in these beautiful little lives.

A day in the sunshine

Standard

There is something so rejuvenating about getting outside into the sunshine and fresh air. Having been stuck in the house for a month I felt strong enough to venture out. I was rewarded beyond measure when my six year old grand daughter wandered over and asked to help garden. I gave her a new pair of Mickey Mouse gardening gloves I had been saving for this moment. She was indeed thrilled. We thinned cabbage plants, replanted, weeded, hoed and then she felt inspired to get the hose out and water herself and the gardens. I am sure her mother was not pleased with me as she has never thought to put her hands into the dirt. The joy it brought Saylor was worth any wrath it inspired in her mother.

I was a bit disappointed that the deer ate the tops off of all my ornamental grasses and the beachbirdarmadillo felt it necessary to dig and eat most of the new bulbs I had planted. Usually it is the horses or escaped cattle that wander over and do their damage. I did have a great surprise in the Heron who hangs out here. It stood about ten feet from me and watched as I weeded the front flower beds near the pond. I am surprised that it is getting so domesticated.

Today will be another beautiful mid 60’s day. No gardening left to do so I may take my book out and sit on the deck, watch the fish jump, the ducks swim and the birds at the feeders. I hope you all have a glorious day……
